Summary:
“My Landscape Project” is an interactive installation that combines a pair of windscreen wipers from an automobile and the traditional Chinese fan shape painting. The windscreen wipers connected to a motion sensitive sensor will ruin the traditional Chinese painting artifact by wiping away its surface. Through the collaboration of the audience the time/ movement based sensor will accelerate allowing the artifact/painting to be erased at a faster speed. The motion sensitivity only works when movement is taking place in front of the installation.
This Anti- Traditional installation represents my attitude of the tradition of early Chinese rule based landscape paintings in such a way that links to my past experiences as a child studying painting. Inside this interactive installation is an unsolvable contradiction and question between industrial and traditional, self-torture and natural harmony. It also references the conflict or the tension between the industrial power that the world revolves around and the traditional harmony of a painting. The conflict that history now represents in a digital paradigm shift is unavoidable.
